Juniper Solar Farm and co-located Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) will play a vital role in helping North Yorkshire Council deliver its commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030 and carbon negative by 2040. This development would produce enough energy to power approximately 7,251 homes. The solar farm would have an approximate capacity of 15.4MW, and the BESS would have a 5MW storage capacity. It would be a temporary development which would see the site being fully restored to its prior use after it is decommissioned.
By generating power within the UK, the scheme will reduce reliance on imported gas and oil, protect households and businesses from global energy price spikes, and build a more resilient and independent energy system for the future. The co-located battery storage facility will supply electricity to the electricity network at times of peak energy demand and help make the renewable energy output of the solar farm a secure and reliable part of the UK energy supply.
